Northern Lights Snowshoe Adventure
Tour Overview
Walk on snowshoes through a quiet, snow-covered forest while the northern lights may dance overhead. The evening hike starts from Gargia Lodge, and we head out into the winter dark as the stars appear. Tours run from November to March.
The hike is easy and guided, on gentle trails through snow-covered forest, far from light pollution and road noise. You need no snowshoe experience. The pace is relaxed, and the tour suits all fitness levels and anyone aged 8 and up.
Guide and bonfire
Your local guide tells you about the landscape, the night sky and the Sámi traditions tied to the aurora. Midway, we stop and light a bonfire in a sheltered spot in the forest. You warm up with a hot drink and a local snack while watching the sky.
Good to know
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed. Alta has some of the highest aurora activity in Europe, and our guides read the forecast and choose the best possible route for the night. If activity is low, the forest hike and bonfire are still a good evening in their own right.
