Historical Snowmobile Tour across Finnmarksvidda
Tour Overview
You ride Norway's longest historical postal route by snowmobile, following the paths of 19th-century reindeer herders and mail carriers. The tour starts at Gargia Lodge, over 150 years old. Old photographs show the people who crossed the plateau long before modern machines existed.
After a traditional home-cooked meal, you ride to Suolovuopmi Mountain Lodge, climbing towards Europe's largest mountain plateau. Reindeer tracks may cross your path. At the highest point we stop to look out over the white landscape. At the mountain lodge you get lunch and coffee, while your guide tells the story of the postmen who skied between isolated communities. You return along the same trails.
