The Anticipation Begins
Sometimes, it takes a while before you're ready to share a remarkable experience with others. Last winter, our team embarked on a journey we had been eagerly anticipating for days. The adventure commenced at Gargia, a small but charming starting point. With guests arriving from the south, we took the evening to discuss the upcoming expedition, review our gear and packing lists. Following a hearty meal and a glass or two, we settled in for a peaceful night, knowing that the vast wilderness awaited us.
Heading to Suolovuopmi Fjellstue
After a delightful breakfast at Gargia, we made our final preparations before setting our sights on the wilderness. Our journey began with a trek to Suolovuopmi fjellstue, then onward to Maze. Here, we made a fuel and supply stop, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the captivating beauty of the Finnmark plateau.
Life on the Vidda
Life on the vidda, the plateau, is simply enchanting. Endless stretches of pristine white landscapes greet us, with few souls in sight. Every hill and turn unveils a new, awe-inspiring vista. Each day feels like an exploration of the unknown.
Mollisjokk Lodge: An Oasis on the Wilderness
Our journey led us to Mollisjokk Lodge, where the adventure continued. This was no ordinary lodge; it was a haven of experiences. We tried our hands at ice fishing beneath the frozen surface, indulged in a relaxing soak in a hot tub, and savored delicious meals.
Onward to Finland
As the sun rose over Mollisjokk, we were greeted by another splendid day. With a hearty breakfast of eggs and bacon behind us, we continued our journey, eventually descending into the Finnish lowlands. There, we enjoyed a burger at a local inn before the allure of the wilderness called us back to the homeland of Finnmark's beautiful mountain lodges.
Unforgettable Nights Under the Northern Lights
Our adventure included stops at Ravnastua and Nedre Mollisjok before we finally arrived at Jotka fjellstue, where we would spend the night. Once again, we were enchanted by the plateau's beauty, and the evening was crowned with a soak in the hot tub beneath the mesmerizing Northern Lights.
The Return Journey
The next morning, Finnmarksvidda greeted us with its best side yet. Though we knew we had to return to Gargia, the journey from Jotka was a scenic one. We relished another day on the plateau's pristine landscapes.
A Day That Didn't Want to End
The final day exceeded all expectations. It was the kind of day you wished would never conclude. We soaked in the beauty of the mountains and enjoyed all the offerings of the fjellstuer, including a delightful waffle stop at Suolovuopmi fjellstue. It felt almost crowded there, but it was a heartwarming gathering of familiar faces, making it an unforgettable moment.
A Journey Worth Reliving
Our adventure had to come to an end, as all good things do. But even though it's over, it's a journey that stays with you. As October arrives, and the temperatures drop, and the snow blankets the landscape, we can't help but reminisce about this extraordinary journey.
